      How do I enable passkeys on an a Mac

      Enabling passkeys on an macOS device involves a few steps. Here’s how you can do it:

      Requirements

      • macOS Version: Ensure your Mac is running macOS Ventura (macOS 13) or later6.

      • iCloud Keychain: Passkeys require iCloud Keychain to be enabled6.

      Steps to Enable Passkeys

      1. Enable iCloud Keychain:

        • Open System Settings by clicking the Apple logo at the top left.

        • Select your name at the top of the sidebar.

        • Choose iCloud.

        • Toggle on Password & Keychain16.

      2. Access Passwords:

        • Go back to System Settings.

        • Select Passwords from the sidebar3.

      3. Create a Passkey:

        • Select Passkey from the offered means of authentication.
        • Set up your first Passkey and give it a name that you will use to recognize it for future signatures.

        • Follow the on-screen instructions to create an account or sign in.

        • When prompted, choose to save a passkey for your account.
          You may need to authenticate using Touch ID or Face ID (if using an iPhone or iPad).

      4. Manage Passkeys:

        • On macOS 15 and later, you can manage passkeys through the new Passwords App instead of System Settings.

      • Cross-Device Compatibility: Passkeys are synced across all your Apple devices signed in with the same Apple ID via iCloud Keychain.

      • Security: Passkeys use public key cryptography, making them more secure than traditional passwords.
