06.09.2023 Hint for validators in Italy

In Italy signatures are often validated by validators which do not provide reliable information about the validity of siganture in the context of eIDAS. They even do not consider eIDAS regulation. These validators are also offered on the web page of AGID ., e.g. here: https://www.agid.gov.it/it/piattaforme/firma-elettronica-qualificata/software-verifica .

eIDAS specifies in its regulation how validators must work and there are assessed validator providers. In Italy this is only Infocert in the moment. The list of accredited validators can be downloaded via the link of the EU https://eidas.ec.europa.eu/efda/tl-browser/#/screen/search/type/1 . Here you can select the validation of qualified signatures and the country. Beyond this list there are validators of the Austrian supervisory body RTR https://www.signatur.rtr.at/en/vd/Verzeichnis.html (the link can also be find on the web page of ASIT) and the validator of the EU commission https://ec.europa.eu/cefdigital/DSS/webapp-demo/home . Both seem to provide correct results.

We strongly recommend not to use the following validators listed on the AGID web page - they provide wrong results:

Please note that these validators can only validate QES and no AES. For AES no validators exist because AES is not specified in detail. The validity of an AES can only be determined and decided in a court trial.
